Both Powys MPs have thrown their support behind Rishi Sunak to take over from Liz Truss as Prime Minister.
MP for Montgomeryshire Craig Williams and the MP for Brecon and Radnorshire Fay Jones, have both come out as early supporters of the former chancellor, who was beaten by Ms Truss in the last leadership content just a few weeks ago.
Both released statements on social media within a matter of hours of the resignation of the Ms Truss yesterday (Thursday).
Mr Williams, who previously worked with the Mr Sunak when he served as a Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, said: “I can think of no one better to lead our party and tackle the serious issues we face than Rishi Sunak. His experience and steady hand is exactly what the country and party needs right now.”

“I now want to see Rishi Sunak become Prime Minister. Not only does he know the party membership well, he has the experience and the skills to bring the stability we need.”

Both MPs both previously backed Mr Sunak in the summer when he went up against Ms Truss in the previous leadership.
Rishi Sunak is one of a handful of MPs being talked about taking over as Prime Minister with some even suggesting the return of the former scandal ridden Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The leadership contest has been sparked after Liz Truss’s resignation after a turbulent premiership that lasted only 45 days - ending after a controversial vote about fracking in the House of Commons.
Ms Jones has also raised concerns about the behaviour during the vote by the Conservative Party’s whips and said: “I am concerned at the heavy handed whipping operation which took place yesterday. Colleagues should be free to vote without undue pressure from the whips office.
"I have approached both the Chief Whip and the Deputy Prime Minister to inform them both of my regret at the way yesterday was handled. It was deeply beneath us.”
