Emergency services have been sent to the scene of a serious multi-vehicle crash between Welshpool and Castle Caereinion.

The A458 remains closed for accident investigation work following a crash that happened at around 3.30pm this afternoon (Friday, October 7) which involved at least two vehicles along the Sylfaen straight.

Two air ambulances, two road ambulances, two fire engines and several police cars were sent to the scene.

Wales Air Ambulance released a statement this evening confirming that a crew was sent to the incident near Welshpool this afternoon. "Unfortunately, we are unable to give further details," a spokesman for the charity added.

Motorists have been told by police to avoid the area for the time being and plan ahead to avoid delays.

"We will update you once the road has re-opened," Dyfed-Powys Police added.

Traffic website Inrix is reporting that traffic in the area is coping well.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called today, Friday, October 7, at approximately 4.08pm to reports of a road traffic collision in Welshpool.

"We sent two rapid response vehicles and two emergency ambulances to the scene, and we were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance.”
