Plaid Cymru Senedd members have written a letter to First Minister Mark Drakeford voicing their concerns about the potential closure of the Welshpool Air Ambulance base.
Four Senedd members, Rhun ap Iowerth, Cefin Campbell, Mabon ap Gwynfor and and Sian Gwenlian have all signed a letter asking expressing their worries that the closure of the Caernarfon and Welshpool bases could have a devastating impact in rural areas – where access for more conventional emergency services may take a considerable amount of time.
They are calling for the for the Welsh government to commission independent analysis of the data used by the Wales Air Ambulance to make their decision.
In the letter they said: “Doubts have been raised about the basis of the data which suggests more people could be treated if the change was introduced, and the purpose of this letter is to try to better understand the government role in providing the data.

“Will you therefore look again at your answer on September 20? Further, Would you be prepared to commission an independent analysis of the data that underpins the charity decisions? Your ability to provide the best emergency healthcare depends on it.”
Mark Drakeford's reply to a previous question on the issue
Mabon ap Gwynfor Member of the Senedd for Dwyfor Meirionnydd said on a statement via social media that on the current evidence there would be little advantage in closing the site.
He said: “As it is – it is hard to see how this could lead to anything but longer waiting times for urgent care in some areas.”
