A POWYS care home has thrown a birthday party for a woman celebrating her 102nd birthday.
Stella Williams celebrated her milestone birthday at Trenewydd care home, based in the Llanfaes area of Brecon.
Residents, staff and guests came together for the occasion, including Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe, the chairman of Powys County Council.
Born in Kent, Stella met her husband in Ryarsh before marrying in 1940. It was at this time that Stella was forced to move because of the war and went on to have a successful career as a public assistant.
Trenewydd manger, Richard Shepherd, said: “Stella is always so heavily involved in the activities we plan here at Trenewydd – her favourite being bingo.
“She is an avid reader and can always be found enjoying a good book. As well as getting lost in her reading, Stella loves to garden and knit.”
Stella spent her birthday receiving gifts and cards from loved ones before being sang to by staff and residents. Trenewydd’s kitchen staff also marked the occasion by baking her a celebratory cake.
Mr Shepherd added: “Stella’s big secret to living a long life is being happy, loving dogs and enjoying a glass of sherry now and then.”
Trenewydd is located in the residential suburb of Llanfaes and provides care for up to 35 residents, including those suffering from dementia.
