A man from Powys who is accused of murdering his 87-year-old mother will face trial next year.
John Anderson Griffiths, of Llanfrynach, near Brecon is charged with “much-loved” Margaret Joyce Griffiths’ murder after she died in hospital on the day after an incident at a property in the village on August 26.
The 57-year-old man, who spoke to confirm his name, age and address, entered no pleas when he appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday morning.
Griffiths was told by the judge that he will remain in custody while a psychiatric report is prepared in time for the next hearing on November 1.
A two to three-week trial is expected to take place at Cardiff Crown Court in February next year.
Mrs Griffiths, locally known as Joyce, was described by her heartbroken family as a “much-loved mother, granny, sister and a loyal and active member of the community”.
