A Montgomery man was caught drink-driving while travelling home from a holiday after consuming alcohol at an airport abroad, a court heard.
Richard Burd, 47, was stopped by police for breaking the national speed limit in his Audi A5 on the A483 towards Welshpool at around 5.30pm on September 10 this year.
Welshpool Magistrates’ Court heard that the civil engineer had been drinking at an airport abroad and with the eight hours difference “thought he would be in the clear”.
Burd was disqualified for 12 months and ordered to pay £785 in fines and court costs after pleading guilty to drink-driving after a test gave a reading of 59 micrograms per 100 millitres of breath – the legal limit is 35 micrograms – at the police station.
Magistrates banned Burd, of Tan-y-Mur, Montgomery, from driving for 12 months and fined him £500, ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £200 victim surcharge. He was also offered to attend a drink-drive awareness course to reduce the length of his disqualification.
