FORMER professional footballer Lee Trundle will be sentenced next month after he was pulled over for speeding in Powys.

Trundle, who has played for Welsh sides Swansea and Wrexham, as well as Bristol City, Leeds United and Preston North End, was stopped by police driving a Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon on the Newtown bypass on March 14 this year.

The speed limit on the bypass is 60 miles per hour – Trundle was clocked travelling at 72mph at 11.48am on the Upper Dolfor Road.

Trundle, 45, was not present at Llanelli Magistrates' Court on Friday, September 16, where the charge was proved in his absence.

The case was adjourned and Trundle, born in Liverpool but who now lives in Neath, is due to be sentenced on October 14.

Trundle still plays football and has been plying his trade in the lower Welsh leagues in recent years. The sublimely skilled forward has scored 73 goals in 67 appearances for Welsh second tier side Ammanford since joining them in 2019. He has 339 goals in 694 senior career appearances.

Trundle also works as a club ambassador and youth team coach for Championship side Swansea – for whom he made 194 appearances, scoring 91 goals.
