A POWYS man who was jailed in July has died in prison, the Ministry of Justice has confirmed.
Shane Davies died on Sunday, August 28, about a month after he had been jailed for just over two years at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court for drug offences.
Mr Davies, who had lived in both Llandrindod Wells and Rhayader, was 33.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: “HMP Cardiff prisoner Shane Davies died on August 28. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has been informed.”
The Prison Service said Mr Davies’ next of kin had been made aware and that there are no criminal proceedings in relation to the death in custody.
Every death in custody is investigated by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.
Mr Davies had been a prisoner at HMP Cardiff since being jailed for 25 months for a string of drug offences on July 29.
