A drop-in session about the work being done to address flood risk in the Llandinam area has been postponed as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Natural Resources Wales-led event which was due to take place in the village hall on Tuesday (September 13) has been rearranged for October 11.

Sara Pearson, NRW Operations Manager for Flood Risk and Water Management said: “Further details will follow and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

At the rearranged session, Llandinam residents will have the opportunity to sign up to a flood warning service in light of the flood impacts experienced in the area during Storm Franklin in February 2022.

Homes were evacuated and people rescued by boat on Sunday evening, February 20, after the River Severn burst its banks with some properties saved from floodwater with sandbags.

NRW officers will also work with the community to support the development of a community owned Community Flood Plan, designed to help the whole community in its response before, during and after a flood, and also inform residents about the on-going and future work planned for the area.

Sara added: “We know that Storm Franklin had a real effect on Llandinam and our thoughts are with those that were affected at that time.

“NRW is working with the community to take proactive steps to reduce the risk of flooding in this community in the future, and to help residents take their own steps to reduce flood risk.

“The drop-in event will be a great opportunity for locals to come along to learn more about our work in the area and to ask questions.”

Residents can attend the event at the Llandinam Village Hall on Tuesday, October 11.
