A POWYS man will face trial next month over a string of accusations – including strangling his partner, wounding, controlling behaviour and throwing a dog at a window.
Rhys Burgess appeared at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates' Court on Monday, September 5, where he was remanded into custody until his case is to be appear in the crown court in October.
Burgess, 29, of Coryton Close, Brecon, faces six charges in total, five of which relate to offences alleged to have been committed last Friday, September 2.
On that day, Burgess is said to have intentionally strangled Natasha Morgan, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Terrence Morgan and caused unnecessary suffering to a protected animal, namely Roxy the dog, by picking her up and throwing the animal at a window.
Additionally, Burgess allegedly stole a mobile phone and subjected Natasha Morgan to violence while doing so and also caused criminal damage to various items, including car wing mirrors, a mobile phone, fan, laptop, printer, desk, earphones, Perspex windows, internal doors and a lock mechanism belonging to Natasha Morgan.
Lastly, Burgess is charged with engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in relation to Ms Morgan between August 1, 2021, and March 31 this year.
He is said to have continuously engaged in behaviour which was controlling or coercive, including constantly texting and calling her, threatening to kill an animal, family or himself if the relationship ended, and controlling her friendships and places she frequented.
Burgess is due to appear at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on October 3. He was refused bail and will be remanded in custody until that date.
