FOLLOWING on from the knockout heats back in May, the final of the Women’s Institutes Powys Inter Federation quiz took place at Llanyre Village Hall earlier this month.

Chair of Powys Radnor, Libby Hughes, welcomed visiting teams and supporters from WIs representing Breconshire, Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire. Members took to the tables ready for an evening of deep thought, scribbling of answers and much laughter.

This event, which hadn’t taken place in recent years due to Covid, was guest hosted by quizmaster Jean Hurrell from Montgomery WI. Jean had held several very successful and popular quizzes via Zoom during lockdown so everyone knew they would be in for a challenging evening and no-one was disappointed.

Suspense was put on hold halfway through for all to enjoy a delicious supper prepared by members of the board of trustees and public affair sub-committee of Powys Radnor and the raffle was also held but, with the completion of the six rounds, a picture round and the ever useful joker to play, the second half commenced.

With a very close finish the eventual winners of the 2022 Inter Federation Shield were members of Three Cocks WI from Brecknock, with Radnorshire representatives Whitton second and a combined team from Abermule/Cefn Coch, of Montgomeryshire, third.

Libby thanked those for taking part, Jean for setting the mind teasing questions, catering members and team supporters for making it a very enjoyable evening.
