Powys MS James Evans has switched his support to Liz Truss in the Conservative leadership race.
After the Conservative Leadership Hustings in Cardiff on Wednesday night, Brecon & Radnorshire's MS announced his support for Truss as the next Prime Minister, breaking ranks with other major Conservative politicians in Powys.
Both the MP for Montgomeryshire, Craig Williams and the MP Brecon and Radnorshire Fay Jones were early supporters of rival Rishi Sunak with both being vocal of their support on social media.
At the start of the Leadership contest I was backing Rishi but as this has gone on there is only one person to unite the country and the party and that is Liz Truss! 🏴 pic.twitter.com/EcMkdYRabt

The MS Member for Montgomeryshire Russell George has also put his support behind the former Chancellor after initially supporting Penny Mourdant. And William Hague, who lives near Welshpool, has also backed Mr Sunak, who succeeded him as MP for Richmond in North Yorkshire.
Explaining his decision to switch allegiance mid race Mr Evans said: “I’ve been watching the leadership contest carefully to see what the two candidates will do for our country and Brecon & Radnorshire.
“I had initially considered backing Rishi Sunak, but after watching the hustings, including the one in Wales, I’m proud to say that I’m supporting Liz Truss to be the next Leader of the Conservative Party and the Prime Minister.
“We need someone who is ready to hit the ground running, and it’s Liz Truss who has the strong plan to rebuild our economy and cut taxes for hard-working people in Brecon & Radnorshire. I want someone who is going to get on with the job, we need action now words.
“Liz might not be the best polished performer on stage, but she has a record of delivery in government and that is why she has my support."
