A Powys man has been hit with a hefty £1,760 fine after arriving at an airport in England without proof that he had tested for Covid-19 after being abroad.
Richard Joseph Randall, of Llanwrin, near Machynlleth was sentenced at a court in Manchester which resulted in a total bill of £2,026 for costs and fines.
The 39-year-old was charged with failing to have a coronavirus testing package "without reasonable excuse" when he arrived at Manchester Airport on May 21, 2021.
Court records state that Randall had failed to book Covid tests for day two and day eight. The offence was contrary to the Health Protection (Coronavirus, International Travel) (England) Regulations 2020.
The Llanwrin man was sentenced at Greater Manchester Magistrates’ Court on July 18, 2022 where he was fined £1,760, and ordered to pay a £176 victim surcharge and £90 costs for the offence.
Court records stated: "On 21/05/21 at Manchester Airport Without reasonable excuse contravened the requirement to book a day 2 & day 8 covid test."
