This year's Llanidloes Carnival has been dubbed "the biggest and best ever seen" by residents.
Hundreds turned out to celebrate the first carnival in three years which organisers said thy were "delighted and thrilled to bits" to see so many floats and many people walking in the parade.
The coronavirus pandemic put a halt to Carnival Queen Kate Jones' big day for three years. But the Llanidloes High School pupil said it was worth the wait to be crowned by Mayoress Vicki Jones with retiring Queen from 2019 Georgia joining in with the crowning ceremony.
Kate said: "I really enjoyed being given the opportunity to be Llanidloes Carnival Queen after a difficult previous three years. The wait was worth it. It was wonderful to see such a good turn-out of floats and spectators. Everyone looked like they were having a great time.”
Organisers have praised the Llanidloes Dragonettes for a "marvellous" cheerleading display on the field with more than 100 young people taking part. There was also fun sports competitions on the field for children and adults as well as a variety of stalls and traditional activities for all the family.
Organisers have thanked people for making it a memorable carnival by volunteering their time and giving generous donations. They include Llanidloes Town Council, Llanidloes Town Football Club, The Red Arrows Committee, Croco-doco-dile Play Group, Cambrian Mountain Events, Co-op, Llanidloes, The Spa, Llanidloes, Electric Classic Cars, Mid Wales Walking and Hiking Guides, Milwyn Jenkins & Jenkins, St John’s Ambulance – Llanidloes Division, Katie Hamer, Paul Jervis, Marc George, the judges and marshals, and the participants in the Jubilee-themed 'Bake Off' competition held on the Friday night before carnival day.
A fun rounders and barbecue event to raise funds for next year’s carnival will be held at at the Cricket Club in Llanidloes tonight (Friday) at 6pm.
