A woman from Llangynog has received a special recognition from the Welsh British Legion for 62 years of service.
Enid Jones, an 89 year old Llangynog resident, was honoured for her 62 years of service as a Poppy Organiser for the district.
She was presented with a bouquet of flowers by the Head of the Welsh British Legion on Wednesday, July 13.
Ms Jones said: “It was lovely to receive appreciation, and I’d like to say thank you to the kind people who arranged for the beautiful flowers to be delivered.
“I first became a Poppy Organiser in 1957, which is so long ago that I barely remember why I joined in the first place!
“I’ve received a lot of recognition for the work I’ve done, like winning the Poppy Cup one year for selling a the most poppies in the region.
“In 1987 I was invited to Buckingham Palace, and to a special remembrance service at Albert Hall.
“I have certificates for 20 years of service, and another for 50 years, so it’s great to have another honour to add.”
Her daughter, Beth Pritchard, said: “Mum was absolutely thrilled and over the moon to receive the recognition for her years of work.
“The idea to arrange something to honour her first came about when her neighbour, Sarah Chambers, got in contact with the Royal British Legion, but the pandemic delayed any possible arrangements.
“Now that it’s finally happened, we are so pleased as mum has done so much for the community over the years.
“As a Poppy Organiser, she was responsible for delegating colleting duties, and she wanted to stress that it’s all been a team effort.
“Even as she approaches 90, she remains an active member of the community, she was Church Warden for 30 years and as one of Llangynog’s oldest residents, is determined to still play a role in village life.
“She’s been invited to open the new playing fields in the village on July 30, so she’s still very much out and about.”
