It's another bitter blow for the town centre after another bank announced that it will be closing its Llandrindod Wells branch next year.
Lloyds bank will close its Middleton Street doors for the final time on January 16 2023 leaving only HSBC in the town.
Brecon and Radnorshire MP Fay Jones told constituents that she was "disappointed" with the announcement "especially after the loss of Barclays" in August 2021.
Llandrindod Wells councillor Pete Roberts described the closure as a "another kick in the teeth" for the town.
Yesterday (Wednesday), it was revealed that Lloyds' Welshpool branch will also close in January 2023 leaving north Powys' second largest town without a bank.
Lloyds Bank said fewer customers have been visiting the Llandrindod branch with 126 people using it regularly in the 12 months to March this year during which there were coronavirus restrictions. They added that 72 per cent of customers already using other ways of banking, such as over the phone or internet banking, as well as other branches. The nearest Lloyds Bank branches are located in Presteigne, Newtown and Brecon.
A Lloyds Bank spokesperson: “Visits to our Llandrindod Wells branch have fallen over recent years, as many customers now choose to bank in different ways. When the branch closes in January, customers can continue to bank with us at the Post Office on Station Crescent and can access cash at a number of free ATMs nearby."
Fay Jones. Conservative MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, told constituents on Thursday (July 21) that a community banker from Lloyds will be located in the town after the branch closes.
"I am disappointed to learn that Lloyds have announced they will be closing their branch in Llandrindod Wells in January 2023, especially after the loss of Barclays.
"Over counter facilities are vital for rural communities, and I have spoken with Lloyds to ensure that customer support remains.
"Day-to-day banking services will be accessible at Post Office branches and Lloyds have confirmed that a community banker will be located within the town to assist customers following the closure."
Lloyds Bank added that customers will be contacted to to let them know about the alternate local banking services available.
