A cricket match between two secondary schools was held on to honour teenager and young farmer James Corfield during the leading up to the fifth anniversary of his tragic death.
The James Corfield Excellence in Cricket High School match took place at Montgomery Cricket Club between Welshpool High School and Newtown High School on Tuesday, July 12.
Tom Corfield presented this year's winner Newtown High School with a trophy in memory of his late brother.
James, who would have been celebrating his 24th birthday this year, died as a result of an accident while at the Royal Welsh Show in 2017.
The 19-year-old farmer and Montgomery Cricket Club star player had been staying with friends at Europe's largest agricultural show when he was last seen in Builth Wells town centre shortly before midnight on Monday, July 24.
A large-scale police search was triggered the next day when he was reported missing after failing to meet his family at the Show. James' body was found in the River Wye on July 30.
The inaugural James Corfield Cup between Welshpool High School, of which James was a pupil, and Newtown High School was held at Lymore in Montgomery on Tuesday, July 11, 2018.
James' mother Louise Corfield hoped the annual cup match would promote her son’s favourite sport to each passing generation and preserve the legacy of the popular all rounder.
