A project that's pushing the Cambrian Mountains region to become the next big rural destination has won the 2022 Wales Rural Network Award for its community work.
The Cambrian Mountains Initiative’s EU Rural Development Programme (RDP)-funded project Dyfodol Cambrian Futures scooped the award in the Communities category for its work in Ceredigion, Powys and Carmarthenshire.
This has included building and supporting the Cambrian Mountains identity as a destination by strengthening the tourism network and working within local communities and with businesses to build the economy of the area.
Dafydd Wyn Morgan, Projects Manager at the Cambrian Mountains Initiative, said it was a great opportunity to highlight the work they’ve been doing over the last five years in the Cambrian Mountains region.
“We can’t believe that the Dyfodol Cambrian Futures project has won this award but would like to dedicate it to the project team, the Cambrian Mountains Initiative’s Directors especially Chair Ieuan Joyce, the project Steering and Monitoring groups and the Lead Body, more so Powys County Council’s ‘Arwain’ team.
“A massive thanks to all the project’s community participants, stakeholders and partners, and also for the financial support from Ceredigion, Powys and Carmarthenshire County Councils, Aberystwyth University via Pwllpeiran Uplands Research Centre, Cefn Croes Wind Farm Community Trust Fund, Brechfa Forest Community Wind Farm Trust and the Elan Valley Trust."
Organisers of the event had created a Cambrian Mountains aisle of produce all branded up and with nearly twenty local producers from the Cambrian Mountains Local Produce network which was visited by First Minister Mark Drakeford.
Rural Affairs Minister Lesley Griffiths AM had visited the Cambrian Mountains Initiative’s stand and commented on how good the Cambrian Mountains Initiative’s social media was.
The Cambrian Mountains Initiative’s work continues with new working partners and exciting community-based projects. For more information visit www.thecambrianmountains.co.uk
