THE town was built on the reputation of its famous rejuvenating spas, and Llandrindod Carnival was revitalised last weekend as it made a welcome return to the town following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Britain’s Got Talent finalist Eva Abley performed on the day, while the Albert Hall’s Ah Players also entertained the crowds gathering around the bandstand throughout Saturday, July 2.

There was plenty on offer for the masses that turned out, with carnival day starting at 12pm. Judging was under way by 12.30pm and the procession started at 1pm. The crowning of the carnival king and queen was at 3pm, with Eva’s routine at 4pm.

There was fun for all the family this year, with the Barton Circus bringing their ‘Lost and Found’ (trapeze and ropes) routine to the event, complete with workshops. There was lots of colour among the carnival floats and a fancy dress competition, with the Mid Wales Axe Racing team on display and various other competitions.

With food stalls, a bar open, a lorry pull, bouncy castles and stalls operating throughout the day, DJ Cal and Conspiracy Theory then entertained long into the night.

Brecon and Radnor MP Fay Jones was one of the judges for the carnival floats and thoroughly enjoyed her day. “Llandrindod Carnival is back,” she posted on her Facebook page.

“I had the honour of judging the floats…toughest job I’ve had in a while. The bees, the Disney princesses and the ladies of the WI were magnificent but nothing captured my heart as much as the Dalmatians. (And the very frightening Lions!).

“An amazing day out. Huge thanks to all the organisers – what a brilliant event.”

Ysgol Trefonnen pupils performed in the Llandrindod Voices Choir along with pupils from Ysgol Cefnllys. “A huge well done to Llandrindod Voices Choir – Ysgol Trefonnen and Ysgol Cefnllys singing together at Llandrindod Carnival,” posted Ysgol Trefonnen on the school’s Facebook page.

“All the children were brilliant and we can't wait for them all to sing together again soon. Da iawn pawb.”

Organisers Llandrindod Carnival reflected on a successful return for the event, posting: “What an amazing town we live in.

“Following Saturday’s fabulous carnival the committee would like thank the following people, businesses and organisations for their support both on the day and behind the scenes. Without this generosity of time, goods, financial support and equipment this carnival would not happen so thank you all.”
