A Newtown man who was not in proper control of his Audi A3 near a primary school at pick-up time has been warned by a court that he will be banned from driving if he commits another offence.

Paul Jones, 39, was charged with not being in proper control in Park Lane, Newtown, which is near Ysgol Calon y Dderwen, formerly known as Hafren and Ladywell Green schools, on Monday, October 25, 2021.

He pleaded guilty to the offence at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (July 5) and was given three penalty points on his licence and fined.

The court heard that Jones, who works as a supervisor in the construction industry, is already disqualified until November for a substance driving offence.

Cynthia McVey, chair of the magistrates’ bench, said: “One further offence and you will be banned for a further period. Be very careful.

“This offence occurred happened near Hafren and Ladywell Green schools and this occurred at 3.20pm and we see this as an aggravating feature.”

Jones, of Bryn Street, Newtown, was also ordered to pay a £450 fine, £85 prosecution costs and a £45 victim surcharge.
