A post-master who has served his community for over four decades has stepped down from his leading role.
Huw Lewis, manager of Meifod post-office, finished his last day as head of the institution on June 18 after 44 years of service.
While Mr Lewis is not fully retiring, he is handing the reigns over to his daughter Mari and her partner Mike.
Mr Lewis, who started working for the post office in 1978, said: “Obviously there’s been some big changes over the past 44 years, but you learn to adapt with each new change that comes along, it’s part of the role in serving a community.
“The biggest shift probably came with modernising and computerising the entire postal system, which was a big change but ultimately made it much easier.
“I may be stepping down as post-master, but I’m hoping to carry on lending a hand here as long as they want me to, at my age you’ve got to take the future as it comes.
I’ve enjoyed every day of it, with my favourite part of the job being the relationship I’ve built with customers and members of the community, having a chat over the counter and making friends.
“I love this village, and I’m greatly looking forward to seeing Mari and Mike making a success of the post-office’s role within Meifod.”
