Entries are now open for the first Newtown 10K after organisers confirmed that the race is set to take place in 2023.
The fast one lap run, which will take runners by some of Newtown's scenic areas, will take place on Sunday, May 21.
The event will start at 9am near the soon-to-be-opened Riverside Venue, Back Lane and finish at the same location.
Runners who manage to cross the line will receive a "unique" medal, and awards will given to the top three female, male and under 14 group winners.
It costs £21.99 to take part, but it's £2 cheaper if you're affiliated with UK Athletics.
Adrenaline Sporting Events, which is the team behind Welshpool and Oswestry 10Ks, said it is pleased to offer a new race in Newtown.
"The Newtown 10k brings together an active community of people taking part in sporting events for reasons ranging from fitness, competition, charity, health, fun or to simply finish," organisers said.
"The participants vary from nervous first-timers of all ages through to competitive runners."
Next week, Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council will discuss plans for Newtown to host a 10K race.
Open Newtown, which maintains the town’s large green public spaces, has shown its support for plans put forward by Adrenaline Sporting Events.
Stuart Owen, enterprise officer at Open Newtown, said the race would help promote the town’s natural beauty to visitors and locals taking part in the proposed event.
“I believe this event will be a very welcome addition to the local calendar," he said.
“I hope that Powys County Council Highways will agree and offer support as soon as possible so that firm plans may be put in place and the race promoted.”
More details about the Newtown 10K and what will be on offer on the day for runners and spectators will be announced soon.
