JUBILEES naturally provide the public a chance to look back at past celebrations.
The reign of Queen Elizabeth II officially began following her coronation on June 2 1953 at Westminster Abbey in London.
Elizabeth II acceded to the throne at the age of 25 upon the death of her father, George VI, on February 6 1952 with the coronation held more than one year later because of the tradition of allowing an appropriate length of time to pass after a monarch dies before holding such festivals.
It also gave the planning committees adequate time to make preparations for the ceremony.
Every community in Powys came together to celebrate the crowning of the new Queen and the County Times now shares some of the pictures from the time.
Many of the people in the pictures have sadly passed away but hopefully some remain with us and perhaps descendants can pick out any of their ancestors.
