EILEEN Lewis and Mike Reynolds recently welcomed members of the Swansea and Brecon Guild of bell ringers to St Padarn’s Church in Llanbadarn Fawr, Crossgates.
With eight visitors joining them they were able to take turns in ringing the five bells in the tower and it was a joy to hear once again the sound of church bells reverberating throughout the church and pealing out across the Radnorshire countryside after being silent for so long.
The bell ringers visit local churches on a regular basis to try new sounds as each set of bells are dissimilar in size and tone, giving a completely different challenge each time.
Standing in the graveyard listening at a little distance the sound was magnificent.
The bell ringers of St Padarn’s, Crossgates, have recommenced practicing and if you are interested in joining the group, contact Claire on 01597 851646 or email c-lewis@hotmail.co.uk for dates and times of practicing.
At present they are meeting at 7pm on Wednesday evenings. Anyone interested would be more than welcome.
