PHIL Hughes held his nerve to convert an injury time to penalty as Meifod lifted the Llansantffraid Village Cup following a 3-2 win over Trewern United on Friday night.
The sides went into the game on the back of last week's league cup finale which saw Trewern prevail.
The Kings led after 20 minutes with Phil Hughes slotting home Alan Hughes' left wing cross only for the Tigers to hit back almost immediately with Barry Haralambous heading home.
The sides remained inseparable until nine minutes from time when Phil Hughes shot was parried by goalkeeper Nathan Jones with Huw Williams prodding home the loose ball.
Once again Trewern soon mustered a reply with a bobbling shot from Warren Roberts deceiving goalkeeper Ewan James to level.
Phil Hughes' match winner.
The final looked destined for extra-time when Adam Davies went to ground in the area with Phil Hughes taking responsibility for the resulting penalty as Meifod were crowned Village Cup winners.
