A youth has been arrested as part of a police and fire investigation into an arson attack at a church in Newtown.
The fire, which happened on Thursday evening (May 19) inside Newtown Evangelical Church, was confined to one room and involved a sofa and a chair.
Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Police are working closely with the church and that there will be a police presence at the site in the short term, with patrols increased in the area beyond that.”
The youth was arrested on suspicion of arson and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the church in Heol Vaynor at 8.13pm, and later called Dyfed-Powys Police at around 10.30pm.
Firefighters extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet, two breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and small gear before leaving the church at 9.47pm.
The incident is under police and fire investigation.
