ONE person has been arrested and released under investigation following a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in Newtown last week.
The pedestrian was airlifted to hospital following the incident, in which they sustained a “significant” head injury.
The incident happened at approximately 8.40am on Thursday morning, May 12, on New Road following reports of a collision outside St David's Church, with the collision believed to have been between a pedestrian and a county council vehicle and its trailer.
“The driver of the council vehicle was arrested and has since been released pending further investigation,” said Dyfed Powys Police chief inspector Jacqui Lovatt, who added that the driver has not yet been charged.
“The pedestrian is currently stable having suffered a significant head injury. They are still being treated at Royal Stoke University Hospital.”

Following treatment at the scene by Wales Air Ambulance medics, the pedestrian was airlifted just after 9.50am to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
A police cordon was in place between St David's Church and Ffordd Croesawdy and the public had been told to stay away from the area while accident investigators carried out their work.
A trailer carrying temporary traffic lights and a maintenance lorry had remained at the scene along with police vehicles while the road was closed to motorists.
