A Zumbathon had people exercising and dancing to raise £757 for an important cause.

The event at 23 Social, Broad Street is one of several fundraising events hosted by Knit and Natter Newtown during April which is Testicular Cancer Awareness Month.

Knit and Natter Newtown said they had a "fantastic" response and support from local businesses Bradleys Caersws, Hafren Vets, Jo’s Hairworks and Morrisons supermarket.

At the event Knit and Natter presented a cheque for £500 to Bronglais hospital towards the new Chemotherapy Unit. The cheque was be accepted by Knit and Natter Newtown member Paula Roberts' son-in-law-to-be who was treated for testicular cancer at the hospital in Aberystwyth last year.

In March, the knitting group celebrated its sixth birthday and continues to see membership grow.

Paula added: "We have been very busy, we have now made over 2,000 fish and chip jumpers.

"We recently donated our knitted items to Ukraine. We have donated many blankets and teddies to the dementia ward at Shrewsbury hospital, and donated £200 to our local community cafe.

"We are all looking forward to our day trip to Wonderwool Wales on Saturday, April 23."
