NEW parking spaces are to be added to Welshpool Medical Practice thanks to the support of a local charity.

The additional spaces were made available with the assistance of local charity, the Margaret Caroline Griffiths Trust.

The Trust had approached Powys County Council with the intent to purchase some land formerly owned by the now closed Gungrog School – which the council supported.

Chairman of the trust, Dr James Kiel, said: “The bequest from Miss Griffiths was incredibly generous.

"Thanks to her we are now in a position to provide considerable support for major projects, such as this one, for the benefit of the Welshpool Medical Centre patients."

Over the last few years, the trust has acquired numerous pieces of medical equipment which are used at Welshpool Medical Centre for the benefit of the patients.

These donations include diagnostic equipment such as electronic stethoscopes and oxygen monitors, electrically operated couches, as well as improved air-conditioning in patient areas.

The Margaret Caroline Griffiths Charitable Trust was set up in 2016 to deal with the bequests of Welshpool resident Margaret Griffiths.

A sizable portion of Miss Griffith’s estate was bequeathed with the aim of benefitting the health and wellbeing of Welshpool medical centre patients.

Miss Griffiths was born at Dolobran Fach Farm, Pontrobert, in 1919 as the youngest of four children.

She graduated from Aberystwyth University, along with her sister Lillian and they both became head teachers.

Miss Griffiths resided in Luton before retiring to Welshpool to live closer to her sisters, who all left bequests to local charitable causes.
