A Llanidloes shop has been shortlisted for an award that celebrates small businesses in Wales.

Woosnam and Davies News is a finalist in the community category at the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Awards.

The competition aims to celebrate the huge contribution that smaller businesses and the self-employed make to Wales and recognises each and every person, company or family that owns, runs or works in a smaller business.

It is the first time that the Long Bridge Street shop has been recognised by the FSB Wales Awards.

Trudy Davies, of Woosnam and Davies News, said “It’s been a tough couple of years for all small businesses in Wales and from day one of the pandemic I think we can say we have done above and beyond for our town and district.

"All us small Welsh family and independent businesses are the back bone of the economic retail sector in Wales. We have all done our share trying to keep our high streets vibrant and viable, while supporting our communities."

Other finalists include barc community outreach centre in Bridgend; Carmarthenshire Party Ponies; Celtic Financial Planning Ltd based in Mold; and the Community Impact Initiative CIC also based in Bridgend.

The Welsh final will take place at Wales' first five-star hotel - St David’s - in Cardiff Bay in April where Trudy and her team have been invited to a drinks reception and lunch.
