A major Powys landmark is calling for potential volunteers to come forwards to join its team.

The National Trust is holding an open day at Powis castle to inspire members of the public to volunteer as guides for visitors.

On Saturday, March 26, the team at Powis Castle will be welcoming people to the castle grounds to show for an informal meeting.

From welcoming visitors to the castle and showing them round the gardens to helping the volunteer team care for the collection, the open day will give attendees a chance to discover what volunteering at the medieval site is like.

Alison Dunne, senior volunteering and community officer at Powis Castle, said: “Volunteers are among our strongest supporters, and a big part of our team. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without them.

“We’re now looking for a group of new and eager volunteers to join us by getting involved with this amazing place.

"We’re not looking for historians, just friendly, welcoming people who have a genuine interest in Powis Castle and want to help us share its stories, so everyone can enjoy it, for ever.”

Everyone is welcome to volunteer, irrespective of age, qualifications of experience.

The castle welcomes nearly 200,000 visitors a year, with 2022 expected to see a boost as events such as the Welshpool 10k and an episode of Antiques Roadshow coming to the Welshpool landmark.

The open day will start at 10am and finish at 1pm, though attendees are encouraged to arrive slightly earlier than the start time to not miss introductions.
