A POWYS man has been burned by magistrates after he was jailed for stealing candles.
Christopher Gary Drew, 28, stole eight Yankee candles valued at £112 from Co-op in Brecon on October 9 last year. Drew, of Cwrt y Tarrell, Brecon, admitted the offence and was given a month-long prison term by Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, March 8, in part because he was already serving a custodial sentence.
The court heard there was no viable alternative to immediate custody as the defendant is currently serving a sentence and because the offence was aggravated by the his record of previous offending.
Drew will also have to pay a £128 surcharge when he is released.
