LLANFYLLIN Workhouse celebrated St David’s Day, and all things Cymru, in style with a “collaborative cultural evening”.
On March 1, Llanfyllin workhouse hosted an evening filled with art, music and poetry, all themed around a celebration of Wales.
Organiser Dan Llywelyn Hall said: “Tonight’s St David’s Day celebration was a success on two levels: the opportunity for local artists, poets and musicians to collaborate and display their talent, and also the huge potential for the Llanfyllin Workhouse to become a vibrant, cultural hub for Mid Wales and the rest of the UK.”
The evening was opened by Llanfyllin Town Mayor Peter Lewis.
A spokesperson for the event said: “The Mayor reflected on the rich traditions and cultural diversity of the area, noting that the Llanfyllin Workhouse provides an exciting venue for supporting and developing creativity.”
Poetry readings in both Welsh and English opened the evening.
The poetry was followed by a session from the Vivace Choir.
Seven local artists exhibited a variety of contemporary and traditional artworks.
The artwork ranged from large oil painted canvases to wood engravings and watercolours.
Café Lola followed with a mix of jazz, folk and a cross-cultural musical set, before the evening was rounded off with Welsh folk music by Teulu.
Home-cooked food was on hand as well as the launch of local craft brewer Bragdy Tanat’s Workhouse Larger.
