A bowling club in Powys has been lit up by a grant from the National lottery.

Guilsfield Community Bowling Club are celebrating a grant of £2,395 to buy portable floodlighting that can be used by the bowling club and other community groups, meaning more social activities can take place outdoors.

Richard Wilkins, cahir of Guilsfield Community Bowling Club, said: “We would like to thank National Lottery players and The National Community Fund for their support in helping purchase our new portable Ritelite System, floodlights.

“These portable, rechargeable floodlights will allow us, as a Bowling Club, to play later in the evening and lengthen our season. They will allow us to support other community groups who will benefit from their use.”

Rob Roffe, head of Mid and West Wales region at the National Lottery Community Fund, said: “National Lottery players raise over £30 million each week for good causes throughout the UK.

“The grant for Guilsfield Community Bowling Club to improve their facilities will mean the community can use floodlights to offer more opportunities to meet up outdoors.

“Eight in ten of our grants are for under £10,000, going to grassroots groups and charities across the UK, like Guilsford Bowling Club, that are bringing to life amazing ideas that matter to their communities.”

The grant was presented to the club by MP for Montgomeryshire Craig Williams, who handed the National Lottery check over to club president Elwyn Evans.
