A POWYS road has reopened after a vehicle was recovered.

Dyfed Powys Police put out the warning on Wednesday (Feb 23) that the A489 between Dolfor roundabout and Llanidloes roundabout would be closed for four hours between 10am until 2pm while the vehicle is recovered.

It follows a vehicle fire on February 15 which destroyed the vehicle.

Police are asking people to avoid the area.

They added: "If possible, please avoid the area and take an alternative route.

"Thank you."

The lorry which caught fire was carrying lead batteries and led to the closure of the Newtown Bypass that afternoon.

The driver was able to escape the vehicle before emergency services arrived.

Crews from Newtown, Welshpool and Montgomery were sent to help at around 1.30pm, including an Environmental Protection Unit to prevent contamination in the area.

At the time a spokesperson for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire involved the trailer of an artic lorry, which contained a cargo of lead batteries. The driver of the lorry had managed to unhook and move the cab of the lorry away from the fire.

"Firefighters extinguished the fire using four breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet and utilised an environmental protection unit to contain the water run-off."
