Latest coronavirus figures for Powys have revealed a further week-on-week decline in case numbers in the county.

The number of coronavirus cases in Powys increased by 44 in the 24 hours to Tuesday, official figures show, following an increase of 34 cases over the weekend.

At the same point last week, the county had seen 113 new weekend cases and 28 on Tuesday.

A total of 24,123 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Powys when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on February 22, up from 24,079 on Monday.

Public Health Wales said that cases reported on Tuesdays will be for a 72-hour period so are likely to be much higher than the usual 24-hour figures.

The cumulative rate of infection in Powys, which covers the whole pandemic, stands at 18,134 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the Wales average of 25,552.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 40,876 over the period, to 18,695,448.

There were no new coronavirus deaths recorded in the latest weekly period in Powys.

The dashboard shows 325 people had died in the area by February 11 (Friday) – which was unchanged from the week before.

They were among 6,956 deaths recorded across Wales.

The figures include anyone whose death certificate – registered in the week ending Friday – mentioned Covid-19 as one of the causes.

Deaths in Wales are recorded by registration date, and are allocated to the deceased's usual area of residence.
