A MOTHER, her 11-year-old daughter – and their pet hamster – had to be rescued at a Powys beauty spot after a walk turned out to be longer than they had expected.
The mum and daughter, as well as their furry friend, named Frappuccino, who are all visiting Mid Wales from the London area, were found by the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team at the foot of the Brecon Beacons as darkness fell on Tuesday, February 15.
The duo/trio had been walking from Dinas Rock to Sgwd Yr Eira – in the area known as Waterfall Country, between Pontneddfechan and Ystradfellte – when the mum had began to struggle. The team was contacted by Dyfed Powys Police and came to the assistance of the two females and their cute companion.
“Tea time today we were contacted by Dyfed Powys Police to go to the assistance of a mother and her 11-year-old daughter visiting on holiday from the London area,” the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team stated in a post on their Facebook page.
“They had embarked on a walk from Dinas Rock to Sgwd Yr Eira but found that it took a little longer than hoped and on the way back the lady was struggling to continue, with them both being wet and cold, and darkness setting in they rightly called for assistance.
“Fortunately, in phone signal one of our deputy team leaders was able to speak to them and their location determined with What3Words, confirmed via PhoneFind.
“A hasty party was soon on their way and met up with them quickly. Once warmed up a bit they were in a position to be walked off the hill.
“All back safe and well, including their little furry companion, a hamster called Frappuccino, and none the worse for the experience; he and his humans were reunited with their car to make their way back to their accommodation.
“We hope they enjoy the remainder of their holiday in the area.”
