A Powys man who was fined £1,600 for breaking Covid restrictions refused to isolate after returning from holiday, the council has said.
Powys Council has reminded people of the current rules for international travel in Wales after the man was fined following his return from Spain.
The Powys resident pleaded guilty at Llanelli Law Courts on February 4 and was fined £1,600 after refusing to self-isolate following a holiday.
Cllr Beverley Baynham, cabinet member for corporate governance and regulatory service, said: “The work of the officers and others, involved in the delivery of the functions, under the Covid regulations is very important for the protection of public health. Covid has not gone away.
“This case illustrates the importance of thinking of others and isolating as required to protect all members the public.”
At the time of the resident’s return from their holiday, Spain was an amber listed country and legislation at the time required them to quarantine at home on return for 10 days.
The resident, who refused to self-isolate, received a fixed penalty notice from Dyfed Powys Police which they did not pay, which led to the resident being prosecuted as part of a collaborative action taken by Powys County Council, Dyfed Powys Police and the Arriving Traveller Team based in Cardiff.
International travel rules are in place to try and minimise the spread of Covid-19, and Powys County Council is advising residents to continue complying with the rules.
