MORE well-known comedians have signed up to appear at a major comedy festival as it makes its return in Powys in the spring.
After a two-year hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Machynlleth Comedy Festival is set to make a triumphant return with some of Britain’s most popular comedians performing at the event.
The festival takes place from Friday, April 29, to Sunday, May 1.
Notable names in the line-up include Ed Gamble, Rosie Jones, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Nish Kumar and Sindhu Vee.
Known for appearances on comedy panel shows such as Mock the Week and Have I Got News for You, as well as their own stand-up shows, each comic will be debuting new material at Machynlleth as part of their ongoing tours.
Nish Kumar described the event as “the comedy fan's comedy festival”, with Machynlleth being the last stop on his 2022 tour titled Your Power, Your Control.
Another new performance comes from Sindhu Vee as she brings her show Alphabet to the Welsh town.
She said: “Alphabet is actually less about who I am on the outside, all the stuff you could have picked up on Wikipedia, and more about who I am on the inside. I think that’s the real difference. Pretty much everything I’m going to say in Alphabet you wouldn’t know if you didn’t come to the show.”
In addition to more well-known names, Machynlleth will feature dozens of more obscure stand-ups waiting to be discovered by new audiences, homing routines that are still works in progress and looking to make a big breakthrough.
The variety of comedy on display at Machynlleth is what led comedian Rhod Gilbert to label it “one of the best festivals in the world”.
