Llanidloes Town Council has agreed to call for a public meeting inviting residents and organisations to join the discussions about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Towns and villages across the UK will be holding their own special celebrations during a four-day Bank Holiday weekend this June.
Councillor Margot Jones said the town should “do its best” with marking the Queen’s 70-year reign.
“You can’t help but admire her, she is amazing. It’s important that Llanidloes does celebrate it. It would be marvellous to appoint a town crier,” said Cllr Jones.
Powys councillor for Llanidloes Gareth Morgan added: “We are the grassroots organisation and people will be looking at us to give a lead on this.”
However, Cllr Steve Lees said: “I’m a Republican. People tend to support the Queen if there’s a purpose. We waste far too much money as a country as it is.”
Mayor Cllr Janet Crisp has arranged for a meeting to take place at the Hanging Gardens, Bethel Street at 7pm on Monday, February 7.
Anyone with interesting ideas and plans for the Jubilee weekend (June 2-5) is encouraged to attend.
Powys County Council is inviting communities to apply for road closures, free of charge, to allow them to hold communal street parties.
