A drunk man who people feared would fall onto the railway tracks in Welshpool has been told to “get his life together” by a court.

Jonathon Dace was abusive and aggressive in front of people, including children, who were waiting for a train to arrive at Welshpool Railway Station at around 5pm on December 28, 2021.

Welshpool Magistrates’ Court heard that police officers “had no choice” but to arrest the 49-year-old due to his threatening behaviour.

Dace, who was defending himself in court, said: “I just want to apologise. There were children there. I had a lot going on at Christmas. I know it’s not an excuse but I want to apologise for my behaviour.

"I'm trying to get help from Kaleidoscope. I lost my job and car and I haven’t handled it very well to be fair. I’m really trying to get back to work.”

Chair of the Magistrates’ Bench, Cynthia McVey, told Dace: “This is becoming something of a habit. Here we are again. It’s not good and it will get to point where you will receive a harsher punishment.

“However, we do feel that you are intent on making changes. We strongly advise you to contact Kaleidoscope. You are not a young man anymore, you’re almost 50, and you need to break this habit and get your life together."

Dace, of Gallowstree Bank, Welshpool, was ordered to pay £85 court costs, £34 victim surcharge and a £40 fine.
