A group that aims to support men's mental health through walking is set to expand to two Powys towns.

Men Walking and Talking started in Newtown during the autumn to draw attention to mental health issues and suicide prevention.

Now there are plans to start the group in Llanidloes and Welshpool this year.

Hour-long walks take place fortnightly on a Friday evening in Newtown where men can feel they can talk with people about life's struggles.

Andrew Coppin, organiser, said: "I would again like to thank the entire Newtown community and local businesses for supporting Men Walking and Talking the last two months. We have done seven walks with 250 men (approx) who have supported the group or have come for a talk in a non judgemental safe environment.

"Also the local sports groups who have allowed me to visit them and been so welcoming and supportive, Newtown Wanderers FC, Kerry FC, Newtown Rugby Club, Newtown Darts and Newtown pool leagues."

He added: "I can't bring back lads who are no longer sadly with us but I promise I will do everything in my power and more to prevent any more families suffering heartbreak."

Details about when and where Men Walking and Talking will take place in Llanidloes and Welshpool have yet to be announced.

The next walk will start in Back Lane car park, Newtown at 7pm on Friday, January 21.
