TWO Powys families received the most special Christmas gift as they welcomed new arrivals into the world on December 25.
Shaun Davies and partner Annie Morris welcomed their first child, with baby Maggie Eira Davies arriving just after 9am on Christmas Day. Shaun, 34, and Annie, 25, are even toying with the idea of incorporating this magical time of year into their daughter’s name to make their Christmas even more special.
“She’s Maggie Eira Davies at the moment but we haven’t registered the birth yet, so we’re toying with the idea of officially calling her Maggie Eira Christmas Davies,” said Shaun, from Builth Wells.
“With the surname it sounds a bit like Christmas Day which I really like. We haven’t registered the birth yet so we might just do it; even Annie’s coming around to the idea, so we’ll see what happens.”
Shaun said Maggie – who weighed in at a bouncing 8lbs 9oz on Christmas morning – had been due to be dropped off by Santa earlier in December, but as it got closer to Christmas he was ecstatic she waited until Christmas Day.
“She was due on the eleventh so she was exactly two weeks over, she held on for Christmas Day I think,” said Shaun.
“Annie was induced on Thursday at Hereford Hospital. I then had the phonecall off the midwife at around 6am on Christmas morning to say it was happening and to rush down to Hereford.
“The closer she was getting the more we were hoping she would arrive on Christmas Day. This day will always be really special now.”
A little further north, Father Christmas also dropped off another special delivery for Hannah and Steven Price, from Churchstoke, with Hannah giving birth to a baby boy on Christmas night.
Vinny Steven Sylvester Price arrived at 8.06pm, weighing in at a whopping 9lb 9oz. He was also late, having been scheduled to make his arrival on December 14.
“My husband had been away for a week or so, so was just back in time for the birth,” said Hannah, 27.
“He really wanted him born on Christmas Day, saying it would be the perfect day, so I think he hung on for a few more days for daddy.”
Steven, 31, is over halfway to his dream of having a family the size of a football team, as Vinny is child number seven, his sixth with Hannah.
“That’s it for me but dad says he wants more,” added Hannah. “He wants a whole football team, but I’ll say he’s got a five-aside team already so he can be happy with that.”
Vinny joins Steven’s oldest daughter Lily, 13, while Lily-May, 11, Rowan, 7, Regan, 5, Grace, 4, and Paige, 1, can’t wait to welcome the newest arrival into the family. That might not be for a while though as Covid-related illness means they will have to wait to all be together for the first time.
“I haven’t been back home yet because Steve’s got Covid, so he and the kids are isolating and we haven’t been home to see everyone,” said Hannah, who gave birth in Telford.
“We have five other children, as well as Steve’s oldest daughter Lily, so we haven’t all seen each other yet. Steve has seen Vinny but he’s now isolating with the kids. Hopefully I’ll be discharged in a day or two but I’ll be going back to our place which will be empty, but at least it’s clean. It won’t be too long though and the main thing is we’re both healthy.”
