Brand new gym set to be complete next week

The refurbishing and extension of the gym at Builth Wells Sports Centre began in October and is almost complete – with new gym kit arriving next week.

“Builth gym works approaching the finishing line,” said the centre on its Facebook page today (Saturday, December 11).

“What a transformation, new gym kit arriving next week.”

Powys County Council (PCC) and Freedom Leisure announced their intentions to develop the gym – including refurbishing the former cardio and weight room and massively extending the previously tiny free weights room – in September.

As part of the works, the weight training room has been made larger to create a bespoke and functional strength area, to accommodate the centre’s growing number of members and customers. And the existing fitness equipment is being replaced with new, fully accessible state-of-the-art Technogym products.

Improvements to the flooring, ceiling and lighting have also been carried out to create a quality facility for exercise and fitness.

Councillor Rachel Powell, PCC’s portfolio holder for young people and culture, said at the time: “Our sports and leisure centres are highly valued by Powys residents who want to look after their own, and their families’, physical and mental wellbeing, so providing the best facilities we can to help them achieve this is really important to us.

“The work that is planned should lead to significant improvements at Builth Wells Sports Centre and it looks like it will be a really exciting development that will allow even more people in the area to live active and healthy lifestyles.”

The improvements will also be of benefit to the adjacent high school pupils, studying at Ysgol Calon Cymru’s Builth campus, who have long used the facilities during their PE lessons and for extra-curricular sports activities.
