ONE of Llandrindod Wells’ main roads was cordoned off with police tape this week, with local residents left wondering if a major incident was occurring.

However, the reason for the police presence was due to roof slates falling from a currently unopen hotel due to the adverse weather conditions.

The loose slates began falling from the Glen Usk Hotel, on South Crescent, at around 11.30am on Tuesday, December 7.

A spokesperson for Dyfed Powys Police said: “Dyfed Powys Police officers on duty in Llandrindod Wells found slates had become loose from the Glen Usk Hotel, at approximately 11.35am on Tuesday, December 7.

“Officers assisted with closing the road to ensure members of the public remained safe, while Powys County Council were informed. The road was reopened at approximately 1.20pm but the footpath remained closed following attendance from the local authority.”

The local authority confirmed their officers had attended the scene, with barriers placed in the vicinity in order to protect members of the public from any danger.

“The road was closed by police for safety concerns and highway staff attended to put barriers to cordon off the area,” said a council spokesperson.

The footpath remained closed on Wednesday morning.
