AN APPEAL for Christmas toys to go to vulnerable families affected by domestic abuse has entered its second week.
The Christmas Toy/Gift Appeal is being organised by Montgomery Family Crisis Centre, which supports men, women and children experiencing or affected by domestic abuse and arrive with very little.
Sarah Voice launched the campaign with her young son several years ago after moving to the area.
She is once again helping to organise the collection and says previous donations have been crucial and thanked everyone for their help in advance.
She said: “Moving to Mid Wales several years ago, I looked locally for a community organisation that my young son and I could donate to at Christmas time.
“I came across Montgomery Family Crisis Centre in Newtown and leant about the invaluable support they offer to men, women and children affected by domestic abuse.
“Knowing that most families arrive with very little, each year my son and I try to collect as many gifts as possible to donate to families.
“Thanks to the generosity shown from the community as well as my colleagues in the NHS, the donations have grown year by year.
“I’m extremely grateful for everyone’s contributions and shall be forever grateful for the people that support this year after year.”
There are a number of drop-off points including Tesco and Morrison’s in Welshpool, the Talbot Hotel in Berriew, Montgomery Church in Wales School (from pupils or families only), and Maldwyn Leisure Centre, Morrison’s and Tesco – all in Newtown.
Unwrapped items are welcomed for children of all ages and adults so that everyone has presents to open on Christmas morning.
The collection will run until Friday, December 10 and government coronavirus guidelines will be adhered to during the collection and distribution period.
Sarah added: “Every single donation is gratefully received.”
