THE main road between Welshpool and Guilsfield reopened this morning following an accident between a lorry and a tractor that occurred yesterday (Thursday, October 28).
The collision occurred at around 3pm on the A490, with the road closed due to a fuel and oil spill.
Police, fire crews and the Welsh Ambulance Service attended the scene – with the driver of the tractor suffering injuries – while Powys County Council officers were also on the scene dealing with the spillage.
“Dyfed Powys Police received a report of a lorry colliding with a tractor on Guilsfield Road, Welshpool, at approximately 3pm on Thursday,” said a spokesperson for the force.
“The ambulance service attended due to injuries suffered by the driver of the tractor. The fire service and local council also attended to assist with spillages on the road.
“Due to these spillages and the need for recovery to be arranged, the road was closed. Although the vehicles have been recovered, the road remained closed overnight with diversions in place, awaiting further assessment from the council in the morning.”
A post on the North Powys Community Travel Alerts Facebook page said the road to Guilsfield remained closed at the Raven Inn, Welshpool, at 7am this morning.
The local authority confirmed the road reopened at 8am, with a spokesperson saying: “There was a collision involving a tractor and a tanker resulting in a fuel and oil spill.
“The road was closed at the request of the police to allow a clean-up operation to take place. A diversion was put in place while the work was carried out. The road was re-opened this morning at 8am.”
