TWO motorists caught speeding on Powys roads have been fined a combined total of just over £1,500.
Alan Jay Griffith also had his licence taken off him for 56 days after he was clocked travelling on his Suzuki motorcycle near Welshpool at over 100 miles per hour. Andrew John Ricketts, meanwhile, was recorded travelling at just under 100mph on the A44 near Nantmel and had six penalty points placed on his licence.
Both men were sentenced at Llanelli Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, October 27.
Griffith, 41, from St Athan, South Wales, was recorded by laser speeding at 108mph on his Suzuki Gsxr on the A483 just outside Welshpool just after 3pm on June 12 this year.
He was travelling at almost double the legal limit of 60mph. He had previously pleaded guilty to the offence in September and was present at his sentencing hearing.
Griffith was fined £527 and ordered to pay £110 costs as well as a £53 surcharge – making a total of £690. He was disqualified from driving for 56 days.
Ricketts, 47, was caught speeding on the A44 in near Nantmel, between Rhayader and Llandrindod Wells, on the afternoon of June 5. The defendant, from Brent in London, was driving a Honda Cr-V at a speed of 91mph, again on a road where the speed limit is 60mph.
Ricketts, who was not present, was fined £660 and also ordered to pay £90 costs and a £66 surcharge, in addition to the points placed on his licence – making a total of £816.
