Plans to build to two new changing rooms at a Newtown sports facility have been discussed by town councillors.
Newtown Sports Club wants to upgrade its current facilities to include a modern, fit for purpose changing room facilities because the existing changing rooms are “not fit for purpose”.
The club provides sporting facilities covering rugby, cricket and tennis for all ages at the recreation ground opposite Morrisons supermarket in Pool Road.
Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Councillors agreed to support the club’s proposal.
A motion proposed by Cllr Pete Lewington agreed that “the town council requests to the town Clerk to write to the Sports Development manager at Powys County Council who is supporting the club with their funding applications confirming the Town Council’s support of the club’s intentions.”
A town council spokesperson said: “Whilst the town council is unable to provide any financial assistance its support of the clubs funding applications coordinated through Powys County Council would be extremely helpful.”
