A MID Wales man will be sentenced next month after entering guilty pleas to two charges of attempting to engage in sexual activity with a child.
Trevor Hughes, 40, admitted one count of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child aged 13 or under and another of attempting to incite a child aged 13 or under to engage in sexual activity when he appeared at Mold Crown Court on Tuesday morning [October 12].
Hughes, of Gelliceibryn, Glynneath, near the Powys border, had previously denied both charges but, with his trial date set for October 25, he asked the pleas to be put before him again on Tuesday and he admitted both offences.
These took place between November 6 and December 9, 2019, with Hughes arrested by Dyfed Powys Police.
Judge Niclas Parry told Hughes, of previous clean character: “In the end the penny dropped and you’ve done the sensible thing. It’s very late but you still get some credit on your sentence.”
Hughes, of previous clean character, will be sentenced on November 11. In the meantime he will be made the subject of a notification requirement, meaning he must report to his local police station within three days and inform them of his address, date of birth and the offences he has admitted.
“All sentencing options are open, it’s important you know that,” added Judge Parry.
